I'm a bit confused on tnoight's UA1455 MDW-DEN.

United's website says that a scheduled departure of 1722 became an actual
departure of 1754. The schedule arrival time of 1849 is now 2134...2
hours, 45 minutes late.

If I bounce to Flightaware, it says the "Actual" departure was 2011 and
also parallels United's "estimate" of 2134 with a figure of 2116. I can
take "estimates" that vary by 18 minutes. That's logical in my mind.

How do we explain United's 1754 departure with Flightaware's 2011
departure. Why such disparity? No sarcasm please; I'm looking for an
education here...

The UA departure time is the "out" i.e pushback time from the gate.

Flightaware takes it's info from ATC, so their departure time is the
"off" i.e. airborne time.
