The intersection of runways 22 and 26 at Bluegrass Airport, Lexington,
KY is 38d02m24.29s N, 84d36m04.44s W.

It is reported tape recordings have crew of Comair flight and tower
discussing taking off from 22 but the aircraft departed from 26.

Any pilots have opinions on the choice of a sure crash by aborting
against the chance of flying at inadequate speed?

Spoke with my cousin who flys a 767 and the critical element is V1 speed.
The problem for the crew on the Comair flight would have been that the they
would have configured the take-off for a 7,000 ft runway, not 3,500 that
they were actually on. So even if they had tried to abort before V1 they
would not have had enough runway anyways. He gave me a link which explains
take-off speeds and performance
